Life Preserver Wreath

I made this for a friend of mine. At her baby shower, it served as the welcome sign. Now, it hangs plank be Bryson's crib! (the shower was nautical themed and so is the crib set)

Materials:
•styrofoam wreath
•white yarn
•red yarn
•navy spray paint
•wood letters
•wood chip anchor
•clear glue gel
•E-6000
•twine

Process:
First, I spray painted all of the letters and the anchor. Every 20 minutes or so I went back and added another coat of paint until there was no more wood showing through.
To begin the wreath, I mapped out where I wanted each color yarn to go with a pencil. Using the clear glue gel, I glued down the end of the white yarn to the back of the wreath. With a cheap paint brush, I put glue over about 3 inches of the front side of the wreath. Then I wrapped the yarn around and through the middle. I continued this process around the entire wreath, switching colors as needed. (I found it easier to wrap the yarn around when I made a small yarn ball first) I went around the wreath a second time to cover any bits of styrofoam that we're peeking through the first layer of yarn. I did not use glue on the front the second time around.

After the wreath was covered, I used the E-6000 glue to adhere the letters, anchor, and twine. I also added a loop of twine on the back to use as a hanger.

Although this project was very time consuming, the end result was really nice and my friend loved it!

it's been a while

wow, i haven't posted a blog in a long time- not that anyone reads them or i ever posted anything super amazing ... anyways, i'm done with school! NAU at least. i graduated on december 16th. my aunt and cousin came to AZ from NY the day before commencement and have been here since then. they leave on thursday and i have been cherishing every moment that they've been here. i can already feel the tears welling up inside me just thinking about having to say goodbye again. it's so hard having family that isn't close. i'll put up some pictures here from their visit when i can.
as i already mentioned, i am done with school. for now at least. most likely i'll go to grad school someday but not now. i have been doing a little job searching but not much since my aunt and cousin are here. my condo is almost ready, i might even get to move in next week but we'll see how that goes.
one more thing- yesterday marked 15 years that my grammy has been gone.
If tears could build a stairway,
And memories a lane,
I’d walk right up to Heaven
And bring you home again

valentine's day/ grammy's birthday

i have had some decent valentine's days and some not so decent (down right terrible) ones. but no matter how good or bad it is, there's always an ache in my heart. this year it's especially bad. i miss her terribly. and every year, we let balloons go for her. but since i had to come back to school today, i had to let one go by myself, without the rest of my family.
